Then the king will say to those at his right hand, 'Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.' Matthew 25:34-36
Why do Kirkwood United Methodist members serve?
We believe this is simply what Christians do. We try to follow the "great commission" of Jesus Christ to go into the entire world and preach the gospel, knowing that preaching through our actions is the most effective way to show our love of Christ and of each other. How can we claim to love God and our fellow humans if we cannot see that their basic needs are met? At KUMC, we have programs to temporarily house the homeless, feed the hungry, visit those in prison and encourage the brokenhearted.
KUMC members share a rich tradition of serving on mission trips: Mexico; Mozambique; Hinton Rural Life Center in Hayes, NC; New Orleans, LA; Nashville, TN, American Indian Reservations, Kansas City, MO; Chicago, IL and Gulf Shores, AL. Follow us on our adventures this year as we share some of our mission experiences - as we go and do!
